Understanding Tithes and Offerings

Many people have questions about biblical giving. We offer these simple explanations to bring clarity and strengthen your understanding.

What Is Tithing?

The word “tithe” means “one tenth.”
A tithe is the first 10% of your income—given to God before anything else.

What Is the Difference Between Tithes and Offerings?

  • Tithes are the first tenth of your increase.

  • Offerings are any gifts you give beyond your tithe. There are many forms of offerings used throughout Scripture.

Why Do We Tithe?

We tithe because God commands it:

“A tenth of all you produce belongs to the Lord.” — Leviticus 27:30

Tithing:

  • Shows devotion and gratitude to God

  • Helps us place Him first in every area—including our finances

  • Demonstrates trust in His provision
    (See Deuteronomy 14:23)

How Often Should I Give?

Scripture encourages regular, intentional giving:

“On the first day of every week, set aside something and give…” — 1 Corinthians 16:2

Giving weekly or as often as you receive increase keeps your worship consistent and your heart aligned with God.
